COMPETITIONS

We have bi-monthly digital and print competitions throughout the year. A maximum of 3 images per member may be submitted each time. Once an image or print has been used in a NMCC competition it may not be used again in any NMCC competition, either digital or print, the exception being that it may be used in the Annual Competition at the end of the year (this is the only exception). Points for both the print & digital competitions are scored as follows: 8 points for 1st place on the night, 5 points for a 2nd place on the night, 3 points for a 3rd place on the night, and 1 point for each picture entered. Points are accumilated and a winner is declared for each category at the end of the year.

DIGITAL

A maximum of 3 images per member. Images must be submitted either on a disk or a flash drive one week prior to the competition to allow for organisation on slideshow. Images supplied after the deadline of the competition will not be accepted. All the digital images should be sized at 1024 pixels x 768 pixels. Make sure to keep the original picture at full size and make a copy for the digital competition and then re-size it to 1024 pixels x 768 pixels.

PRINTS

A maximum of 3 prints per member. There are 2 sizes allowed, A3 & A4. You may enter in either size or a mixture of both sizes, but your maximum total of prints is limited to 3 prints. These are to be mounted either on a plain board or a board with a pre-cut aperture. The recommended size for A3 mounts is 20” x 16” and the recommended size for A4 mounts is 14” x 11”.

THE ANNUAL COMPETITIONS

The Annual Competition occurs at the end of the year and members may submit a maximum of 6 x A4 or 6 x A3 or a mixture of both sizes and 6 x Black & White Photos. All must be mounted as per specifications mentioned above. The digital competition is a maximum of 6 images. Once a print or image has been entered into the Annual Competition it may not be used again in any NMCC competition even if it has not been entered before.

AV (Audio Visual) Competition Guidelines

Each AV to be a maximum of 5 minutes in length. Images already used in previous print & digital competitions may be used. Historical images can be used if it is impossible to take the same image in present day. A disclaimer must be included at the beginning of the AV stating the following "Some or all of the images in this AV are not the authors original work". Each AV must have a title. For the sake of voting AV's should remain anonymous so please do not make it obvious whose AV it is. A maximum of 2 AV's per member, should numbers permit. In the event of a large entry only 1 AV will be permitted. If you submit 2 AV's please indicate which AV is your first choice should this occur. AV's may be handed in or Emailed 1 week beforehand to Maurice for them to be organised. If it is received after the deadline they will NOT be entered. If done in ProShow Gold can you make your AV a PC executable file. Images used in an AV may not be used again in another AV. It is hoped to run the AV's 2 times maximum on the competition night then members can vote.

Other competions

We have 2 other competions in our annual calendar. The Chairman’s Challenge & The Mystery Village Competition. Both of these are print competitions with the print size being 6” x 4”.

The Chairman’s Challenge is held twice a year where three subjects are specified for your photos. For June 2013 the three chosen subjects are: 1. Rain 2. Transport 3. Diagonals. The 3 prints MUST be 6” x 4” and MUST be mounted on a board 20” x 8”.

The Mystery Village Competition occurs once a year and on departure to the mystery destination participants are given directions to the destination and a list of 7 subjects to photograph. Your choice of 7 prints MUST be 6” x 4” and MUST be mounted on a board 20” x 16”.
